At Great Yarmouth the river Yare runs parallel to the sea for several miles with most of the town on the east of the river, sandwiched between the sea and the Yare. The south quay is the area in the centre of town just to the east of the river. There’s a market, the more expensive hotels and banks. Many older buildings which are kept in good condition, several museums and historic sites give the area an up-market feeling.

Boats coming from the sea into the broads at Great Yarmouth take this route and the South Quay is the first stop as they make their way inland.
